Boys State Update 3-25-2019
On March 18, 2019, I submitted to Boy’s State Nassau County Chairman Bill Laderer completed packages of two delegates, Conor Andrews and Thomas Frank. A thank you letter was sent to School Counselor Brian Resnick of Calhoun High School on March 19, 2019.
On Wednesday, March 20, 2019 and email contact was received at the Post form Marc Edayadi, a junior at Calhoun who is interested in attending Boys State. I contacted Marc and after speaking with him I did some investigation and learned that Marc is a perfect student with a grade point average of 100, he is active in student government, writes for the student newspaper, plays in both the jazz and marching bands, plays on the badminton team and served as an intern in the local re-election campaign of State Senator John Brooks. I spoke with Jim O’Neil and set up an interview with Marc and his parents. On Friday, March 22, 2019, Post member Al Garbarino and I met with Marc and his parents and determined that he is an exceptional young man and fully qualifies for Boys state. We explained that while our Post had already chosen delegates to sponsor for Boys State, we could submit his name to Nassau County as an alternate. I gave him all the instructions and asked for them to be returned by Friday, March 29, 2019.
I spoke with Bill Laderer and explained the situation to him; he added Marc to the list of alternates and told me that Lynbrook Post has sent in a check for $100 without a designated delegate. He stated that he was willing to put that $100 toward the sponsor fee for Marc.
At the Post Executive and General Membership meetings held on Monday, March 25, 2019, I asked membership to sponsor Marc Edayadi as a third delegate to Boys State. Membership at the meeting approved Marc Edayadi as a third delegate to Boys State and will pay a balance of $350 for this delegate. March Edayadi was extremely happy after hearing he was going to Boys State.
