**** MAJOR UPDATE 2 **** Well, I'm happy to announce the other exciting news that I can now let everybody know about. NBC Nightly News was in Maine last weekend doing a story on the Worcester family and Wreaths Across America for the upcoming weekend's events. The first part of their story will be about how this started, the family, etc Now, the second part of their story will finish up Long Island National Cemetery this weekend!!! Yes, NBC Nightly News will be at our ceremony taking both videos and pictures of our event to be included with what they filmed last weekend in Maine. So Long Island National Cemetery will be in the spotlight of the National Wreaths Across America Day for NBC Nightly News. This is for the national news which will be seen throughout the country. Not to be outdone, News12 has said that they will send down a crew to cover our event. That's the second major update I've got for everybody. It's nice to know that Long Island National Cemetery, one of the largest military cemeteries in the nation, will be the focal point of their story. Also, I met with the Director of the cemetery and some of the staff to finalize the details for Saturday's event which I'll be posting within the next day or two. Could there be another major update before Saturday?? Stay tuned to find out.

Good Morning, We've got some exciting news to report along with a slight change to the start of the event on December 16th. First off, we've surpassed last year's count of 1,837 with over 3,000 wreaths donated so far. A great job of fundraising to all our support groups. We also have well over 300 registered volunteers, so please continue to spread the word Second, I have been speaking with Wreaths Across America and can tell you that Rob and Sarah Worcester will be in attendance for our ceremony. Rob is the son of Merrill Worcester who started this 25 years ago and Sarah is his wife. Now to the truly amazing news... I can now let everybody know that Long Island National Cemetery will be receiving AT LEAST 25,000 wreaths for this years ceremony!!! On Saturday, December 16th at approximately 10:15AM, a convoy of several tractor trailers will leave Long Island Marriott in Uniondale bringing these Wreaths to Long Island National Cemetery. They'll be met by all our volunteers who will help unload the boxes and have them ready to be placed after our noontime ceremony. 10 years ago, we started with 77 wreaths and this year, we can now say that almost 10% of the cemetery will be covered with wreaths! We are asking that volunteers arrive at 10:30 rather than 11:30-11:45 to assist us unload the wreaths. Please share this information with your friends possible, we'd love to have as many people possible come down and help honor our veterans.

Leonard T. Tucker |
November 26, 1927 - November 14, 2017 |
On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, Leonard T. Tucker reported to Post Everlasting. Leonard T. Tucker was a Merrick Post No. 1282 member and he was very active at the Post and was our Service Officer at our Post for a number years. Lenny was a World War II Navy Veteran.
When Lenny walked in the room he always made you smile and he would laugh at your corny jokes. You could always joke around with Lenny, he was truly a gentleman. He led and had a wonderful and fullfilling life. God speed my friend. Thank you for being in my life, you touched many people who knew you.
Lenny will be sorely missed.
