Eleventh Hour Ritual
" The following correspondence was emailed to me by our present Commander Robert E. Dishman concerning Veterans Day"
My Comrades, it is now the eleventh hour. This pause is to remind us that the hour of eleven has a tender significance to all members of The American Legion. It was on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour that the guns of World War One ceased firing and silence encompassed the earth. It was at eleven that a delirium of joy and thanksgiving swept over humanity. It was at eleven that the last man died in battle. It was then that the soul of The American Legion was born. It was then that our obligation to our country and to her honored dead was conceived. World War Two has been fought, and with the cessation of hostilities in Korea and Vietnam, and subsequent places, our honored dead lie in many foreign battlefields. Shall we in our jubilation of peace forget our comrades?

Veterans Day Ceremony 2022
Merrick Post No. 1282, American Legion is planning to have their Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, November 11, 2022, at the Merrick's Veteran Memorial Park starting at 10:30 a.m. Merrick's Veteran Memorial Park is located at the corner of Merrick Avenue and Lee Avenue, which is across the street from the Camp Avenue Elementary School. Post and Auxiliary members should gather at the park starting at 10:00 a.m. Thank you.
Veterans Day Mass for Veterans 2022
On Sunday, November 6, 2022, there will be a Veterans Day Mass for Veterans and Auxiliary members at the Cure of Ars, Roman Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. Post and Auxiliary members should meet at the church starting at 11:00 a.m. All veterans, widows of veterans and the public are welcome. American Legion members please dress in full American Legion dress code. Merrick Post No. 1282, American Legion will be presenting their colors at this church mass. Support our troops and veterans with your presence at this function. The Cure of Ars Roman Catholic Church is located at 2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY 11566.
